Literary censorship has existed far longer than just the U.S. Literary Censorship first started showing up in masses in the 1500s, at the height of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church censored all material that A) went against the bible, or B)went against the word of the Pope. They were unreasonably harsh on the Scientists of the time, such as Galileo and Newton and the Brotherhood of the Illuminati, which was created to counter the persecution by the Vatican.
